The project
Al Dara is a seven-storey hospital and medical centre in Riyadh, close to King Faisal Specialist Hospital, with around 250 beds, 188 examination rooms, 68 clinics, 18 outpatient procedure rooms and 10 operating rooms. Two basement levels hold parking, water storage and a VIP entrance; the whole project exceeds 1,200,000 gross square feet with elevated courtyards and terraces.
The hospital is affiliated with Henry Ford Health System (Michigan, USA) and was designed by Hobbs+Black Architects.
What we delivered
- Addressable fire detection across all seven floors and both basements, integrated with a voice evacuation (PAVA) system.
- Phased, horizontal evacuation: every floor is split into fire and smoke compartments with their own speaker circuits, so patients in ICU, on ventilators or in surgery are moved sideways to a safe compartment instead of down the stairs.
- IP CCTV covering basement parking, the VIP entrance, main lobby, emergency department, corridors, lifts, pharmacy and drug storage, cashier areas and the perimeter, recorded and monitored from a central control room.
- Nurse call for the inpatient areas — bedside call buttons, bathroom pull cords, staff-present and code-blue calls, corridor dome lights and a console at each nurse station — sized for ~250 beds plus ICU, labour & delivery and recovery.
